The Yonghe Temple in Beijing, also popularly known as the Lama Temple, is one of the largest and most important Tibetan Buddhist monasteries in the world. Built at the close of the 1600s as the residence of an emperor-in-waiting, the temple has a uniquely imperial feel. Incense is certainly one of the most distinctive smells of Asia. There always seems to be a scent of it wafting through the air.
